2022 was a year filled with lots of hours spent reading incredible books. This truly was the year I fell back in love with reading. I read nearly 70 novels this year, but I am narrowing it down to some of my top picks for you in this post.
Here are my favorite books from every month of 2022.

My Year of Reading
This year of reading started off very slowly. A random book here and there was really all I was doing.
As the year progressed, there were 2 defining moments in my reading journey.
- Rediscovering my love for the public library
- Reading my first Colleen Hoover book
(Don’t worry, this post isn’t going to be all CoHo-focused… but my first CoHo book really kickstarted my love for reading romance again.)
By about June/July, I really kicked my reading into high gear. Some months I was reading 10+ books in 30 days!
Reading has been an incredible reminder to slow down and take time for ENJOYMENT.
Not everything needs to be productive or for some sort of gain. Reading is simply a hobby for me. Allowing myself to unwind and get lost in a book has been amazing for my mental health.
Are These My Top Reads of the Year?
So, my favorite books from every month of 2022…
Yes, these are absolutely SOME of my best reads this year. However, this is not necessarily my TOP 12 books of the year.
Some months I read 2-4 books that were INCREDIBLE. In other months I read books that were only okay.
This post is simply grabbing my top book from each month.
This means that some of my top books of the year may be left out of this if they were simply in second place to another top book read in that same month.
Make sense?
I hope so! Cause I’m ready to talk BOOKS.
Let’s jump into my favorite book from every month of 2022.

January – Sex/Life by B.B. Easton
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Review:
Starting off with a spicy one… 😉
Sex/Life is the only book I read fully this month. I chose to read this after binge-watching the Netflix series.
I really enjoyed this book, but it was significantly different than the series. The story featured many more characters than the TV series.
Originally, I felt like I actually preferred the show. But upon further consideration, I’m not sure it’s fair to compare them. They really are different.
This book was fun, enjoyable, and a great easy read. Definitely recommend it for a lil’ romance and spice!
February – The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Review:
This was my first cover-to-cover-in-one-night book of the year (many more to come…). I stayed up until 3 am reading this book just because I needed to finish it.
This is such a bittersweet love story. Nicholas Sparks is really hit-or-miss for me… and The Best of Me was definitely a HIT. I’m a sucker for a good rom-com movie in book form.
March – Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Review:
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine has a special place in my heart. This book is the first one that kickstarted my reading-as-a-hobby era.
This was my first library pick-up. Before this book, I hadn’t been to the public library for fun since elementary school.
(Below is the TikTok of this exact trip!!)

As for the plot itself, I really enjoyed this book for so many reasons. The characters, the story, the connections, the complexity, the discussion of mental illness… so many beautiful things in this story.
I’d definitely recommend this book. If you haven’t read it yet, add this to your list of books to read in 2023. It’s really a great story.
April – All Along You Were Blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Review:
This was a month of REALLY good reads, but I had to choose my favorite gal, MHN. Morgan Harper Nichlos is one of my all-time favorite poetry/prose writers. She has unbelievably powerful words and her style is unmatched.
All my fellow deep-feeling word nerds, you NEED this book. (Follow MHN on IG too!)
May – Early Morning Riser by Katherine Heiny
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Review:
I actually REALLY loved this book – and I wasn’t sure I would. Early Morning Riser was another cover-to-cover-in-one-night book for me.
This novel is about a woman that falls for a man that has a long dating history. As she meets the people in his life, it seems they all have a romantic past with him (most predominantly, his ex-wife Aggie).
I typically don’t love reading stories about “player”-like men, but I actually loved the characters in this book and found the story captivating.
June – Verity by Colleen Hoover
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
Review:
Oh, my first month of CoHo.
Verity was my second Colleen Hoover book (after It Ends with Us… which I also LOVED. Controversial opinion, I know…).
Verity was my first introduction to non-romance fiction. Before this book, I either read self-help or romance… very little in between.
But after Verity (my first intro to the “thriller”-type genre), I became obsessed.
Verity, as I’m sure you’ve heard, is a really great book for all different types of readers. If you’ve read this, I have a question: manuscript or letter?
July – The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
Review:
(TBH – this book is absolutely tied with Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover, but I chose to highlight this one so I don’t have 3 CoHo’s in a row!)
The Woman in the Window is the definition of PLOT TWIST.
I’m a sucker for an unreliable narrator in a book… and this book does that beautifully. At so many different points in this thriller/mystery, I was SURE I had it figured out. But I most definitely did NOT.
This has also been made into a movie and there is a recent spin-off TV show too. Both are also great (but not as good as the book, obvi!).
August – Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Review:
This is my #1 favorite Colleen Hoover book (and I’ve read all but ONE…).
The love story of Kenna and Ledger is unmatched. But the story of a parental bond is what REALLY got me in Reminders of Him.
This book made me UGLY CRY. Happy tears, sad tears, angry tears… all the tears.
Reminders of Him is brutiful (brutal/beautiful). Such a touching story. I still think of this book to this day.
September – Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Review:
The very first chapter of this book felt like I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds… and I was hooked instantly.
Aside from The Silent Patient, I have yet to read a thriller mystery with this many leads/suspicions only to be completely SHOCKED at the end. This book is incredibly written and the character development is incredible.
Local Woman Missing is a must-read for anyone who likes plot twists, thrillers, or murder mysteries!
October- Addicted to You by Krista & Becca Ritchie
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Review:
I finally gave in and started the Addicted series!
This series is super popular on TikTok… and for good reason. This story is heartwrenching and touching all at once. I love the discussion of the reality of addiction and its impact on relationships.
The dysfunctional relationship in this book feels raw, real, and beautiful all at once. I cannot wait to buy the rest of this series.
November – Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Review:
This is yet another book I found in so many BookTok videos. I decided to give it a shot.
I must admit, I do think this book is SLIGHTLY overhyped by some people. There have been many times I’ve seen people saying it’s their all-time favorite book. I would not go that far.
However, this romance is very cute. It has all the elements of an enjoyable, un-put-down-able novel. The emotions, the characters, the friendships, the plot, the drama, the scandal, the spice… what more can you ask for?
Definitely a good to add to your TBR if you’re a sucker for a good love story.
December – In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Review:
I was SHOCKED at how much I enjoyed this book. Heck, it’s a Christmas novel! All I was hoping for was some festive, cheesy love story. I did NOT expect to fall in love with the characters as I did.
Christina Lauren, the author of the popular Love and Other Words (also a must-read), has a real gift IMO. She is an author that I REALLY jive with.
In a Holidaze is more than just your typical Christmas easy read (although it is that too). This book had me captivated. Loved it!

There are my top books from each month this year.
Again, these are not necessarily my TOP 12 overall, but rather my favorite picks from every month.
I read some super amazing books in 2022 and I already cannot wait for my 2023 TBR.
