Fall is such a magical time of year. Back to school, cozy sweaters, crunchy leaves, and cool breezes. Maybe it’s just the Washington girl in me but I love the fall time! But as much as I love it, the gray weather can get to me sometimes. That’s why it’s super important to me to have a solid fall morning routine to keep my mood up.
My fall morning routine is how I get myself ready for the day, keep myself productive, and make sure that I am really getting the most of the fall season.
By balancing relaxation and coziness with productivity and motivation, I have come up with the perfect fall morning routine for slower mornings.
This specific fall morning routine is what I like to do on weekends or days that I have a bit more time to relax and get going. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not productive!
These are the things I do on fall mornings that really allow me to take some time, enjoy myself, and embrace the fall season before conquering my day!
If you are looking for the perfect relaxing and cozy fall morning routine, you are in the right place!
Cozy Fall Morning Routine
1. Wake Up Slowly
I hate feeling rushed when I first wake up in the morning. I like to take some time and wake slowly. That is exactly what I do on cozy fall mornings!
Whether you are waking up to an alarm or naturally, do so slowly. I like to spend some time in bed, just relaxing and waking up. No phone, no jumping out of bed, no email checking… I just sit and allow my mind and body to wake.
2. Check in With Yourself
I do this immediately after step one, while I’m still in bed. I do a little mental check-in.
How did I sleep? Am I hungry? Am I cranky? What am I excited about today? Do I want coffee this morning? How is my body feeling?
These are all questions I ask myself before my feet even hit the floor. This has been huge for me as I try to add more mindfulness into my everyday life. Definitely take some time to check in with your mind and your body.
3. Open Your Windows
Getting more natural light has so many benefits! With chillier weather in the fall especially, it can be easy to stay inside and not get enough fresh air or sunlight.
That is why I always try to make sure I open my window as part of my fall morning routine. The fresh air and the natural light help boost my boost and wake me up!
4. Make Your Bed
This is really a great part of any morning routine, not just in the fall. I read the book “Make Your Bed” and it was the final straw in convincing me about the power of making your bed in the morning.
Not to mention, a made bed just feels good! It is a great way to jump-start your day and feel like you’ve already accomplished something first thing in the morning.
5. Go for a Fall Walk
I LOVE WALKS IN THE FALL TIME!
So peaceful and serene. The crisp air and cool breeze of a fall morning walk are invigorating. This is my favorite way to get some energy going and my blood pumping first thing in the morning.
If you are struggling with fall gloom or rainy day blues, try taking a walk! I think you’ll be surprised how good it will feel!
6. Make a Warm, Cozy Drink
Fall is the season of all things warm and cozy. Whether you’re a tea or coffee kind of person, this is the perfect time for a cozy drink of your choice.
After my walk outside in the cool air, I love to warm up with a hot beverage. My year-round go-to is always coffee. But in the fall time, I make it a little extra special.
To make my coffee a bit more fall-festive, I love to add some fall flavors to my coffee and use my favorite fall coffee mugs.
For flavoring, Skinny Syrups fall trio has my 3 favorite pumpkin flavors for the fall time!
Yum! It’s like fall in a mug!
5. Plan and Journal
After I make my coffee, I’ll sit down with my planner and my journal. This gives me a moment to get organized and centered for the day.
I like to combine these two and make this part of my cozy fall morning routine with my festive coffee.
Find a cozy spot in your house (I love to sit on my couch by the windows with a cozy blanket), sip your coffee, and journal/plan! I try to make this a relaxation time for myself.
This part of my fall morning routine is one of the things I love to romanticize in my life. I feel like it boosts my mood and makes me feel ready for the day ahead.
6. Get Cozy and Read
Since this is a slow and cozy fall morning routine, I like to take some time to relax and read. Even if it is just 10 or 20 minutes, I love to sit down and get lost in a book.

This has become my alternative for mindless scrolling on my phone. I used to spend a ton of time scrolling Instagram or Facebook but, now, I use that time to read instead.
Lately, I’ve been reading more self-improvement books. A good self-improvement book is a great way to start your day off on a positive note.
7. Take a Relaxing Shower
This isn’t just the normal, quick morning shower… this is a full-blown self-care shower routine.
If I am taking a slow and cozy fall morning, it is important to me that I take time to have a relaxing shower. This involves good-smelling soap, a nice face wash, and some perfectly warmed water.
When it is cold outside, showers become extra relaxing to me. I love making a shower park of my cozy fall morning routine.
8. Get Dressed in a Fall Outfit
Fall fashion… YES!
I love how cozy I can dress in the fall and still look fashionable and cute! When I am getting ready on fall mornings, my go-to is my favorite pair of LuluLemon leggings (or my cheap Amazon Lulu dupes) and a huge oversized sweater!
It literally feels like I am wearing pajamas but it still looks CUTE!
Highly recommend coming up with a few STAPLE fall outfits that you can come back to when you need an easy go-to.
9. Make a Cozy Fall Breakfast
Fall breakfasts are the best breakfast. I love a warm and cozy breakfast.
Some of my staple fall breakfast ideas are:
- Oatmeal (Better Oats are my favorite!)
- Healthy Pumpkin French Toast
- Pancakes
- Yogurt with Pumpkin Spice Granola
- Pumpkin Spice Bagels
- Baked Oats
- Quiche
(Can you tell I’m a pumpkin lover? ๐ )
I love to have a festive fall breakfast as part of my cozy fall morning routine. It makes me feel festive and fall-ish, haha! Fall is the season of comfort foods, am I right? ๐
10. Start Your Day
Now that you have had some time to relax, fuel up, and get yourself ready for the day, your cozy fall morning routine has ended! You have set yourself up for an amazing fall day!
After I eat my breakfast, I like to get to work. Whether this is homework, replying to emails, working on my blog, or doing other work, this is when I get down to business.
So… Now What?
Your festive fall day does not have to stop after your fall morning routine! Not at all! I love to carry my festive fall attitude with me throughout my entire day!
So, how do I do that? How do I keep up the fall energy?
I like to integrate super small, simple fall moments into my day to really make sure I’m present and enjoying the beautiful season.
Some ways to incorporate fall into your day:
- Festive Dinner Recipes
- Watch Fall-Themed TV (I like the cheesy Halloween-y movies! Haha!)
- Take in the Fall Weather (Watch the Rain, Look at Leaves, Etc.)
- Eat Fall-Themed Snacks (Built Bars have my FAVORITE fall protein bars. Use code “AUTHENTICALLYDEL” for 10% off!)
- Read Fall Books
- Get Outside Often
Fall is such a beautiful season… don’t limit yourself to only a cozy fall morning routine. Make it an all-day thing!
