If you’ve never made a vision board before, it can seem so foreign and overwhelming. But don’t worry… I cover all your questions today as I share my tips on how to build a vision board that actually works!
One in five small business owners reports using a vision board to get started building their business!
Of those…
76% say their business has achieved the exact goals they had previously set on their vision board.
WOW!
Still not convinced?
What if I told you that 82% of business owners that used a vision board have achieved at least half of their goals?!
I wholeheartedly believe in the power of vision boards (or visualizing in general) and it is something that I definitely recommend to anybody pursuing self-improvement and fulfillment, chasing dreams, or setting goals. But there are certain steps to take to make sure you build a vision board that actually works.
This post is all about how to build a vision board that actually works.
How to Build a Vision Board That Actually Works
First things first…
What is a Vision Board?
Simply put, a vision board is a collection of your goals, dreams, hopes, and intentions.
Typically these are physical print-outs or representations hand-placed on a poster, corkboard, etc., but they can also be done virtually if you prefer!
The logic behind a vision board is that if you actively see a visual representation of your goals, you are more likely, both consciously and subconsciously, to pursue and achieve them.
This is similar to manifesting in the way it grants power and intention to your personal goals.
With a vision board, you are able to actively visualize, be reminded of, and focus on your “end goal”. The hope is that, in doing this, you increase your likelihood of actually achieving that goal.
Fortunately, that is the case for most individuals that create a vision board of their own.
So, what do I need to create a vision board?
First and foremost, in order to build a vision board that actually works, you need some clear goals.
Take a moment to sit down by yourself and goal-set.
Ask yourself:
- What do I want to achieve?
- Where do I want to be in 1 year from now?
- Where do I want to be in 5 years from now?
- What would make me happy that I do not currently have?
- What is something that I have wanted to pursue for a long time?
These are just some questions to get you started.
Okay, now that you have a goal… here comes the fun part!
Now you really get to make this your own.
My own vision boards (and, traditionally, the most effective vision boards) are a physical, tangible compilation of your various goals.
To build this, I recommend a poster/board of some sort, fun scrapbooking accessories, images, and some fun pens!
You can even find kits that put all these things together for you. I know that Amazon has tons of vision board kits and accessories…
Lastly, you need some time to build a vision board.
Have fun with this and make your vision board your own! Your opportunities are endless!
What do I include on my vision board?
You have your goals, you have your supplies, you have some time… now what?!
Now you have to decide what exactly you are going to include on your vision board.
As a starting point, I like to think of broad categories of my life and then decide on my top goals for each…
For example, some main categories are:
Career:
- Where do you want to work?
- Are you hoping for a promotion at your current job?
- What position do you want?
- Do you dream of starting your own business?
- Do you want a grow a business you already have? How?
Finance:
- How much money do you hope to make?
- How much money do you want to save this year?
- Do you have any big purchases you want to make?
- Are you saving up for something new/exciting?
Relationships:
Do you want to:
- Be more social?
- Meet new people?
- Get engaged?
- Work through a marriage struggle?
- Form a group of friends that meets weekly?
- Grow closer with someone you already know?
- Reconnect with an old friend?
Travel:
Do you want to:
- Visit somewhere new?
- Try a new form of travel?
- Fly somewhere? Road trip? Go out on a boat? Ride a train?
- Visit someone that is far away?
Home:
Do you:
- Have home improvement goals?
- Want to buy a new home?
- Hope to redesign your bedroom?
- Have goals for the upkeep of your existing home? (A new cleaning schedule? A revamped organization routine?)
Physical Health:
Do you want to:
- Walk more?
- Find a workout class you love?
- Drink more water?
- Eat more fruits and veggies?
- Become stronger?
- Better your immunity?
Mental Health:
Do you want to:
- Gain confidence?
- Better your relationship with food?
- Feel happier?
- Be less anxious?
- Practice more self-care?
Education:
Do you want to:
- Graduate?
- Get a certain grade?
- Pass a class?
- Attend a certain school?
- Learn a specific lesson/trade/field?
Other:
Do you want to:
- Buy a specific new purse?
- Get a pet?
- Grow your hair?
- Buy a new car?
- Try a new food?
There are no wrong answers here. Truly, anything you can think of can have a place on your vision board. If you want it, dream of it, or plan to achieve it, it goes on the board!
