12 Productive Things to Do at Home When Bored
1. Organize Your Closet
This is something that I actually need to do right now.
Take an hour or two to really go through your clothes. Pull everything out and go through it one-by-one.
Some things I like to ask myself when I go through my clothes are:
- “Have I worn this in the last 4 months?”
- “If I saw this in the store right now, would I buy it?”
- “Would I think this was cute if I saw a stranger wearing it?”
- “Is this still in good condition? No snags, holes, or stains?”
- “Does this still fit me?”
- “Do I FEEL confident when I wear this?”
As someone who is irrationally attached to her clothes, these questions really help me come to a conclusion on whether or not the item is worth keeping. Otherwise, I really struggle with getting rid of things.
But why keep them if you don’t LOVE them? If it’s a “maybe”, it’s a “no”. Be ruthless, girl. ๐
2. Make Money Online
This seemed like a great follow-up to #1 since one of my FAVORITE ways to make money online is through Poshmark.
In addition to the questions above, I’ll also often ask myself “can I make money selling this?” and, if so, “would I rather have money in my pocket than this item in my closet?”
TBH, a lot of the time my answer is “YES!” (Gimme all the money!๐)
I have made hundreds over the past few months just selling my old clothes on Poshmark!
9 times out of 10 my clothes are still in perfect condition; they just don’t fit me right OR I am just over the style.
But someone else might not be!
List that baby!
There are honestly SO many online at-home side hustles that you can take up when you are looking for a productive hobby at home.
Another great way to earn money online is SurveyJunkie!
They literally PAY YOU for TAKING SURVEYS. There are TONS of survey options ranging from 5 min to an hour in length. Each survey is worth a different amount of points. You then can redeem your points for gift cards or some STRAIGHT CASH MONEY!
I know I can’t be the only one that has an odd obsession with taking surveys… Like ever since I was a kid. Whenever we got a survey after dinner at a restaurant I would HOP ON IT.
And now I can get paid for it… dreams do come true. ๐
3. Plan Future Outfits
I mean, you’re already in your closet… Might as well have a fashion show, right?
This is honestly productive AND fun. I love going through my clothes and piecing together different outfits.
Then, I take a picture of them (or even just jot them into my notes on my phone) so I can remember them later.
That way, when you need an outfit for an upcoming occasion, you have plenty of pre-planned options to choose from. There’s nothing worse than being in a hurry in the morning and having to scramble through 10 different outfits to find one that feels and looks good.
Having some pre-planned outfits seriously saves so much time!

4. Read a Book
This is my go-to because it doubles as self-care as well.
As a major bookworm, I LOVE to read. It calms me, it refreshes me, it’s one of my favorite free-time activities!
And it’s great because it can be super productive as well!
Self-care/self-help books are productive in helping you better yourself/create a better life for yourself.
Nonfiction books are productive in helping you learn something or expand your knowledge.
Fiction/fun books are productive in providing you with enjoyment and bliss!
You really can’t go wrong. I love this option.

5. Go for a Walk Outside
Not only does this get your body moving and your blood pumping, going for a walk outside has countless benefits…
To name a few:
- Fresh air (this is good for you for tons of reasons!)
- Gets your body moving
- Improves immunity
- Give you more energy
- Helps boost productivity and motivation (especially during that dreaded midday slump!)
- Clears your mind
The list goes on and on. I swear by a good walk.
One of my all-time favorite ways to start my day is with a simple walk. Sometimes it’s as short as 15 or 20 minutes, but it gets me feeling motivated and prepared to tackle the day!
I share that to let you know that going for a walk doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment!
Even if you just have 10 spare minutes, going for a walk can change the entire trajectory of your day, increase productivity, and brighten your mood!
6. Plan Ahead
Take some time to sit down and plan.
If you’re anything like me, boredom comes in waves. I will be super bored one day and then feel like I have to conquer 10,000 things the next.
To help balance this out, I like to take time when I am bored to plan out my upcoming days, plans, tasks, and to-dos. That way when they come, I am prepared and ready. This is the best way I have found to combat overwhelm and stress.
To help you out with this, I have included tons of FREE productivity printables for you. From goal setting to assignment tracking to day planning, and more!
So you have no excuse now… ๐

7. Learn Something New
Head to Google, YouTube, or Pinterest and get to searchin’.
This can truly be ANYTHING.
Some ideas of things to learn (or things I am currently in the process of learning):
How to…
- Speak a new language
- Meditate
- Start a blog
- Do calligraphy
- Make homemade bread
- Bullet journal
- Make friendship bracelets
- Do a handstand (been sharing my not-so-good progress with this on Instagram stories if you need a good laugh)
Literally, your opportunities are endless. And so is Google… If you have an idea, I can almost guarantee that there’s a tutorial for it somewhere.
8. Clean Out Your Kitchen
Whether this means organizing the pantry, wiping out your fridge, or doing an entire expired-foods purge, you know what needs to be done.
I feel like it’s really easy to get behind on kitchen chores and maintenance. Hey, it happens to the best of us.
But if you HAVE the extra time and you’re bored at home, this is the perfect productive solution.
It may not sound fun now but it is SUPER gratifying.
I can speak from experience here… I just recently cleaned out my own kitchen. It’s a game-changer.
9. Meal Plan
Hey, while you’re in the kitchen you might as well grab a pen and some paper and meal plan!
This makes the week’s so much easier in less stressful when the dreaded “what’s for dinner?” question pops up.
Not to mention, this can save you TONS on groceries. Instead of frivolously buying anything and everything that looks good, when you have a plan you can have a set list to go off of. Less money on groceries that you don’t need = more money in YOUR pocket AND less food waste.
Stress-free dinner, saving money, AND not wasting food? Boo-yah!

10. Catch Up With a Friend
You may be wondering how chatting with your bestie made the “productive things to do at home when bored” list, but hear me out.
There are TONS of studies that show the benefits of human connection and having meaningful relationships.
- better health
- longer life-span
- reduce stress
- increase sense of belonging
- boost in self-confidence
- improved productivity
Not only is this a great form of self-care (which I always preach IS PRODUCTIVE), connecting with your friends is proven to benefit all aspects of your life.
I’ve been making it a goal of mine to be a bit more social. Whether it be a FaceTime, a phone call, or a quick visit, I am trying to prioritize my relationships. Having good company makes life so much better!
Don’t just take my word for it… I challenge you to take on this goal as well. Go give a friend a call and see how you feel afterward. (I bet pretty great!)
11. Set Goals
Setting goals is such a perfect way to be productive when you are bored at home.
Goal settings is so simple while being super effective and gratifying. Physically setting goals makes you more accountable, dedicated, and fixated on working to achieve them.

I love to write down my goals at the start of every year, month, and week.
Just jotting them down on a paper like this works great.
Why Stop There?
If you want to take it one step further and have a TON of fun in the process, a vision board is my favorite way to goal set and manifest…
12. Make a Vision Board
I have an entire post dedicated to vision boards, that’s how much I love them.
In that post, I go in-depth about why they are effective and my own personal experience with them so I won’t repeat myself here. All you need to know is that VISION BOARDS ROCK!
While I am a big fan of making a physical, tangible vision board, this can totally be done virtually as well. I have also made some vision boards online (on Canva) and even created some Vision Board/Manifestation boards on Pinterest. Both of these can be really great options if you don’t have the time or supplies to make a physical vision board!
No matter how you do it, vision boards are super fun to put together, super effective, and super cute too!
