Positive affirmations for self-confidence, self-worth, and self-esteem can be a great way to shift your mindset and cultivate feelings of self-love and respect.
What are Self-Confidence, Self-Esteem, and Self-Worth?
Self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth overlap in many ways. However, each of these is a unique and individual concept with slightly different meanings. Here are how the three are unique.
Self-Confidence
Self-confidence is simply having confidence in our abilities.
For example, if you know you are an excellent writer, you have self-confidence in your ability to produce quality written content.
Similarly, if you know you are a good girlfriend, you express self-confidence in your abilities as a partner.
Oftentimes, self-confidence is established through past successes and positive experiences. This develops over time as you see yourself thrive in different areas of life.
That said, positive affirmations for self-confidence can help build up your self-confidence as well. With these positive affirmations, you can establish better trust in yourself and your abilities.
A low self-confidence (a lack of trust in one’s abilities) can lead to feelings of low self-esteem. (Note that self-confidence and self-esteem are not interchangeable here.)
Self-Esteem
Despite common belief, self-confidence and self-esteem are not interchangeable. Self-esteem, unlike self-confidence, is not based on confidence in one’s abilities. Instead, self-esteem is a measure of value.
It is possible to have high self-confidence in some areas, but still have low self-esteem. For example, someone may have high self-confidence in their academic abilities but carry low self-esteem in their overall existence.
Self-esteem, at its root, is whether you value, respect, and appreciate yourself as a whole.
This can change as you go through life and live through different relationships, interactions, and experiences.
Self-esteem is a bit more in-the-moment than the broader term “self-worth”. It can shift and vary through different moods and phases of life.
Positive affirmations for self-esteem can improve the way you view yourself and boost your self-esteem.
Self-Worth
Self-worth is a more consistent and stable measure of how you view your value in the world.
Unlike self-esteem, your self-worth tends to remain rather stable, despite moods, interactions, and specific moments.
Self-worth is tied deeply into your core beliefs about yourself. These core beliefs remain consistent over longer periods of time and, therefore, your self-worth is more consistent than self-esteem.
Having good self-worth means that you see your value and worthiness as a human being, regardless of any external factors. Good self-worth means that your view of worthiness is unwavering, even in tough moments.
Although a bit more difficult and long-term, your self-worth can be improved through the use of positive affirmations and retraining your core beliefs.
Why Use Self-Confidence & Self-Worth Affirmations?
If self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth are so complex, can affirmations really make a difference?
Yes!
Positive affirmations for self-confidence and self-esteem are an incredible tool for improving your overall thoughts and feelings about yourself.
Positive affirmations work by retraining your subconscious and rewiring your mind to think in a new way.
Neuroplasticity, your brain’s ability to rewire itself, means that you have the ability to retrain your mind to think thoughts that are more in alignment with what you want to believe.
You are never stuck in a negative thought pattern forever.
Using affirmations for self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth is a great way to get your brain working towards rewiring to a place of unconditional self-love and respect.
How to Use Positive Affirmations for Self-Confidence
Positive affirmations are not a one-size-fits-all experience. There are many ways to incorporate positive affirmations for self-confidence into your life.
That’s part of the beauty of affirmations!
You can customize your affirmation routine and find what works best for you.
5 Ways to Practice Daily Affirmations
Written Affirmations
One way to practice daily positive affirmations for self-confidence is to write them. Much like written manifestations, written affirmations are a powerful tool for retraining your mind.
I like to start writing affirmations by journaling. After I journal, I will write down a few specific, realistic, and meaningful affirmations.

Remember, oftentimes less is more. You don’t need a ton of affirmations. It’s more important that they’re specific, believable, and meaningful to your life.
Mirror Affirmations
Saying affirmations in the mirror can be really powerful as well. It may seem awkward, silly, or uncomfortable at first, but it can be hugely beneficial.
Making eye contact with yourself while saying your positive affirmations can make them feel even more meaningful.
This can be especially helpful if your affirmations are regarding self-image, body image, or physical appearance.
Affirmation Cards
I am a huge fan of using affirmation cards for practicing positive affirmations.
As someone who seems to be on the go all day long, affirmation cards are a great tool to remind me to practice my affirmations. I keep them in my car, on my mirrors, in my planner, and in other random spots around my house that I see on a daily basis.
It’s nice to have a little subtle reminder to slow down and practice some affirmations.

Meditation Affirmations
Meditation and affirmations are a powerful pair. Lately, I’ve been doing a quick 10-minute meditation in the morning and at night.
This is a really great time to also add in some affirmations. Start and end your day with some mindfulness and positivity!
Using an app like InsightTimer (free) or Headspace (paid) is a great way to get started with meditation. Meditation brings your mindset into a place of focus and calm, allowing you to fully embrace and accept your positive affirmations.
Visualization Affirmations
Visualization and affirmations go hand-in-hand. When you visualize your highest, most confident self, your affirmations have more power.
To fully immerse yourself in your affirmations, allow your mind to accept and visualize your words.
Let your mind paint a picture. Place yourself in your goals and dreams. Feel the feelings of your affirmations.
You’ll be surprised how powerful this is for your subconscious mind.

5 Tips for Successful Self-Confidence Affirmations
1. Stay in the Present
As awkward as it may feel, affirmations are most successful when they are worded in the present tense. Speak your affirmations as though they are already true.
For example, instead of “I will be successful”, you may say “I am wealthy and successful”.
This adds confidence and allows your affirmations to manifest in your mind as realistic and true.
2. Stay Positive
Ditch the negative modifiers! The words “not”, “no”, “never”, and other negative phrases should not find their way into your affirmations.
Instead, keep it positive.
For example, the affirmation “I am not insecure” should be shifted into “I am incredibly confident”.
Our minds receive positive phrases much better. Focus on attracting positivity rather than avoiding negativity.
3. Feel the Feelings
Putting your emotions into your affirmations is good. Allow yourself to deeply feel the affirmations you are practicing. The more you can put your emotions and mind into your affirmations, the more they will instill in your brain as fact.
4. Visualize
Visualizing, much like feeling emotions, is a powerful way to put yourself fully into the affirmations you are working on. Also a manifestation tactic, visualization is a really useful tool for raising your vibration and putting your hopes, goals, and dreams into the universe.
5. Personalize
Don’t be afraid to make your affirmations your own! They should be unique to you and your goals.
The above affirmations for self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth are a great starting point but don’t shy away from altering them to best suit YOU.
