Self-Care in the Spring
Spring is in the air. The weather is warming, flowers are starting to bloom, birds are chirping… all of nature feels happy and at peace.
But are you?
As we shift into a new season, it’s the perfect time to check in with yourself – your mind, body, and spirit.
Spring is a time of bliss, hope, and new beginnings… practicing consistent self-care in the spring can help you achieve that feeling internally.
Why Practice Spring Self-Care?
After a few months of winter, it’s common to be feeling the effects of the winter blues or SAD (seasonal affective disorder).
As we head into the new spring season, there seems to be a new wave of motivation and inspiration in the air – as well as lots and lots of pollen. 😉
A spring refresh is all the hype. Everyone is talking about getting your home in order and your spaces organized, but no one really talks about a mental refresh with the incoming spring season.
Our minds and bodies need the same attention and care that we show our houses. Practicing spring self-care is the perfect way to show yourself the love that you deserve.
30 Days of Spring Self-Care Ideas
Join in on this 30 days of spring self-care challenge to keep you on track and ensure that you are caring for yourself this spring season.
Feel free to rearrange, reorder, or revamp any of these ideas. Make this spring self-care challenge your OWN!
1. Check In With Yourself
In order to care for yourself in the best way possible, you need to know where you are at. Check in with yourself.
This can be a journal entry, a brain dump paper, or even just a few mental minutes of deep self-reflection.
You have to meet yourself where you are at. Know where your mind is. How is your mental health? Physical health? Energy levels? Happiness?
All of these are great things to check in on when jumpstarting your spring self-care challenge.
2. Enjoy a Fruit Smoothie
Fruit in the springtime is next-level delicious – fresh, ripe, and perfectly sweet.
Treat yourself to a refreshing and nutritious fruit smoothie. In the spring, I make a fresh fruit smoothie in my Nutribullet almost every single day.
I love to top mine with granola, sliced fruit, and some honey or peanut butter. The most refreshing spring breakfast!
Whether it be for breakfast, snack, or dessert, make yourself a bright spring smoothie and enjoy every sip.
3. Garden
Nothing screams spring quite as much as a day in the garden. If you have a backyard or outdoor space, spend the day relaxing, gardening, and fine-tuning your green thumb.
(Check out these spring gardening tips from Martha Stewart to make sure you are tending to your plants in the right way!)
4. Clean Out Your Closet
This may sound like a chore… but it’s really more of a spring self-care idea. Hear me out.
Going through your closet is a way to get rid of all the clothes that don’t make you feel good. My theory is if you don’t feel like a million bucks wearing it, it doesn’t deserve a spot in your closet.
Donate it, sell it on Poshmark, offer it to a friend, get rid of it!
As I prepare for summer, I like to spend my spring fine-tuning my closet so I only have things that make me feel confident and happy. This is such an important part of self-care. You deserve to feel amazing. Only keep the clothes that align with that.
5. Treat Yourself to a New Spring Item
Sunglasses, sandals, jewelry, shorts -you deserve it!
After self-care idea 4 (cleaning out your closet), you have probably made some more room for new spring items. Go treat yourself to that cute pair of shades you’ve been eyeing!
6. Get Ice Cream or FroYo
Ice cream and froyo are the BEST spring desserts. Meet up with a loved one or take yourself on a dessert date.
Enjoy the cool, refreshing treat as today’s form of spring self-care.
7. Set New Goals
Anyone that knows me knows that I am constantly setting new goals (and reevaluating old ones). Setting new goals for yourself is a deep form of self-care. Goals are one of the most effective ways to ensure that you are constantly improving, growing, and working towards a life you love.
As we transition into a new season, set some new goals for yourself and this new chapter of life.
8. Social Media Free Day
Take a break from social media for one whole day. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc. can all have negative effects on your mental health (and productivity too!).
By taking a break from your social media scrolling, you allow yourself a mental break from the comparison, negativity, and harmful effects that these platforms can have.
This is not to say social media is bad as a whole… but taking a break can be a great way to practice some self-care.
9. Take a Walk
What better way to practice self-care in the spring than by getting outdoors?
Spring is filled with sunshine, blooming flowers, and blue skies. It’s a perfect time to take a relaxing self-care walk.
Walking has amazing benefits for keeping your mind healthy – as well as your body! For example, a walk can lead to improved self-confidence, reduced stress, better sleep, happier mood, and decreased fatigue. Additionally, staying physically can help combat depression.
The benefits of a simple outdoor walk are amazing. Take advantage of the shift to warmer weather and practice some spring self-care with a walk.
10. Start a New Book
Nothing beats cracking open a new book on a beautiful spring day.
Reading can be an excellent form of self-care. Along with many other benefits, reading can help calm your mind, relax you, ignite your imagination, and offer you some relief from the responsibilities of your everyday life.

11. Write Yourself a Thank-You Letter
Self-appreciation and gratitude are often overlooked parts of self-care. It’s easy to get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to reflect on how amazing we are. Showing yourself some gratitude, love, and appreciation is a key element of deeply caring for yourself.
Take a moment today to write yourself a genuine letter of appreciation. Thank yourself for all you do, all you are, and all you have overcome. Give yourself some acknowledgment and credit for how incredible you are.
12. Put Together Spring Outfits
With the shift into a new season comes a shift in our fashion. As spring begins, you may be tucking away those winter layers and busting out some lighter clothes.
Setting aside some time to go through your clothes and piece together spring outfits that make you feel amazing is a form of deep self-care. Having multiple options for outfits that make you feel confident is so important. We all deserve to feel beautiful.
As a form of spring self-care put on a little fashion show for yourself. Appreciate your appearance and hype yourself up. Take photos of your favorite outfits so you can remember to wear them this spring season!
13. Make a Spring Playlist
Much like our outfits, our music can shift with the seasons too. Tuck away those cold, rainy day playlists and, instead, put together some bright and cheerful music mixes!
I love revamping my playlists for each new season. That way, they can stay updated and I can be confident that I’ll be happy with whatever comes on when I press “shuffle”.
14. Shop Antique Stores
Schedule a day to wander around all the cool antique stores near you. Something about these small shops feels so aesthetic and artistic.
To be honest, these unique little shops make me feel like I’m in a movie! This is a great way to romanticize your life and feel a sense of adventure, joy, and self-care this spring.
15. Tidy Your Space
Tidy space, tidy mind.
Whether it be your bedroom, your workspace, or your kitchen, keeping your area neat and tidy is important for mental clarity, productivity, and health.
Spring cleaning is often discussed as a form of productivity or organization… what we often forget is that this organization can also be a form of spring self-care. A clean space often leads to more optimism and positivity. Treat yourself to a tidy home this spring.
16. Make a Vision Board
OR a manifestation list.
Both a vision board and a manifestation list are great tools to help you build the life you’ve always dreamed of. Set some goals, dreams, and intentions for your future, and get busy putting them into action.
Vision boards and manifestation lists can help keep you on the right path for achieving your goals and building a life you love.
17. Get a Plant for Your Room
Spring is the season of all things plants, flowers, and beautiful greenery. Plants are an excellent way to ignite some calm, fresh, positive energy in your environment.
Add some spring energy into your everyday environment by getting some live plants for your room!
18. Buy Fresh Food from a Market
Local farmer’s markets just scream springtime! The wide variety of incredible fruits, vegetables, and fresh foods during the spring is amazing… not to mention, delicious and nutritious.
Leisurely strolling a farmer’s market can be a great form of spring self-care. Stock up on fresh and healthy produce essentials and enjoy the small-town feel of a farmers market this spring.
19. Buy Yourself Flowers
You could cross off two items on this spring self-care challenge at once and treat yourself to some fresh flowers at the farmer’s market… OR you can opt for some grocery store flowers. Heck, you can even pick your own outside! It really is up to you!
I love to get my flowers at Trader Joe’s. There is ZERO shame in buying yourself a big, beautiful bouquet. Put them in your room or your living space to add some bright, cheerful colors!
Fresh flowers can really elevate the energy and happiness in a room. Treat yourself to a bouquet!
20. Binge Watch a TV Show
Sometimes simplicity is key. Some good old TV show binge-watching can be an excellent form of self-care in the spring.
Take a break from your busy life and allow yourself to get lost in a show. We all need that mindless relaxation time every once in a while.
21. Rearrange Your Room
Surprisingly, rearranging your room has pretty intense mental benefits. By refreshing your space with a quick furniture rearrange, you can ignite creativity, instill a sense of safety, boost motivation, and improve mental clarity.
Rearranging and reorganizing your room may be the spring self-care activity you need to feel rejuvenated and refreshed.
22. Take a Day Trip
Pick an area near you that has lots of shops, sights, and fun activities (preferably outdoor for the spring!). May a day trip to that location!
I love going to areas with:
- small, local shops
- antique stores
- coffee shops
- ice cream shops
- outdoor gardens/flower fields
- photos opportunities
- rivers, lakes, or other bodies of water
- walking trails or paths
Areas with these features are perfect for a spring self-care day trip. Spend a day outside exploring a fun town this spring.
23. Do Some Skincare
Skincare is a must for self-care. As we shift into another new season, it’s a good time to evaluate your current skincare routine. Your winter skincare routine may need to be adjusted as we enter spring.

24. Cross Something Off Your To-Do List
We all have that task that we’ve been avoiding on our to-do list. For me, it’s cleaning my shower. I have put it off for weeks.
It’s time to cross off that avoided to-do list item.
This may not seem like self-care, but it is. It may not be the most luxurious or glamorous form of self-care, but it is self-care nonetheless. You will feel so much better once it is done. The feeling of accomplishment and stress relief that comes with getting this pesky task done is a form of spring self-care.
Go get it done. You’ll be glad you did.
25. Exercise Outdoors
During the spring, the weather tends to be perfect for an outdoor workout. Not too hot, not too cold… just right for an amazing at-home workout.
Whether it be a YouTube HIIT workout, a boxing session, some yoga, or an outdoor run, taking your exercise outdoors can make it feel less like a task and more like self-care.
At-Home Workout Essentials:
We all know that balanced movement is good for us… taking it outside can be even better. The benefits of movement coupled with the benefits of the fresh air and sunlight make your workout a full-blown spring self-care session.
26. Meet Up with a Friend
Connect with a loved one! Grab some iced coffee, ice cream, or a bite to eat. Fostering relationships and engaging in social interaction is a great way to practice some self-care this spring.
27. Spend a Full Day in Nature
Most of us spend a huge portion of our day indoors and, likely, staring at a screen of some sort. Taking a break from this and getting outside is so important for your mental and physical health.
In the springtime, when the weather is warming, it can be especially pleasant to get outdoors. Simply spending time in nature has been linked to improvements in mood, mental health, happiness, and emotional well-being.
This is such a small, simple, and easy way you can practice some spring self-care this season. All it requires is a conscious decision to take your day outdoors.
28. Buy a Crystal
Crystals have been proven to have benefits for both our mental and physical health and well-being. In fact, crystals can have incredible healing powers. Each crystal has a unique capability and focus. Different healing crystals have different uses.
Check out a local crystal shop (like I did in the photo above!) or shop for crystals online. Be sure you are shopping at a store that is reputable and authentic. Anthropologie and Etsy are two great places to shop crystals online.
29. Decorate for Spring
Bring a little bit of spring into your home with seasonal decorations. Decorating your space for each season/holiday/time of year is a great way to feel present and festive in every moment.
Even just some subtle shifts to your space can help your room feel more festive, bright, and cheerful for the spring. Try adding in some brighter colors, greenery, plants, and festive candles. These small shifts make a huge difference!
30. Play Outside Like a Kid
Sometimes the best form of self-care involved getting in touch with our inner child.
What would you do if you were still a child? How did you spend your free spring days as a kid? What brought you joy and happiness before you were told you needed to grow up?
Get in touch with your inner-child-self. As a form of self-care this spring, try to ignite the child inside of you and enjoy your day as you would’ve back then. Pure joy, bliss, and fun.
Ride a bike, play with chalk, go for a swim, jump rope… whatever makes you feel that childlike joy, do it!
